Dragon's Debt by H.L. Burke

Dragon's Debt by H.L. Burke
Book Two in The Dragon and the Scholar

Shannon and the Dragon-Prince Ewan have been traveling together for a year. Their blissful companionship is interrupted when they receive a cryptic message from their friend Martin.

Come to Westshire. Edmond needs you.

Drawn to his brother's aid, Ewan finds himself hunting an elusive monster. The winged beast kidnaps young women and steals their memories. Its latest victim is the Princess Brighid of Westshire, the very girl Edmond has recently fallen for, to the disapproval of her temperamental father, King Riley, and stoic brother Prince Ryan.

Ewan is determined to rescue his brother's beloved, no matter what the cost. But when Ryan's eyes fall upon Shannon, the dragon realizes the cost might be greater than he is willing to pay.

My Review

Dragon's Debt is the exciting sequel to Dragon's Curse and you can read my review of the first book here. The author, H.L. Burke, creates a seamless transition from book one to book two. Both the old and new characters are just as interesting. The dialogue and banter continue to be well developed, even causing a smile to cross my face involuntarily at times. (It's fine when you're alone, but if you're in a room with other people, then it's a little embarrassing.)

Shannon, the main character in both books, is caught up in a new adventure fraught with peril. What choices will she make and at what cost? What choices will Ewan, the dragon whom she loves, make that will affect both their lives?

This is a romantic fantasy adventure with a clean story-line. I would recommend it for ages 12 and up, including adults. I always enjoy a good story, especially if it can transport me to an exciting make-believe world where dangers abound.

ABOUT H. L. Burke

Born in a small town in north central Oregon, H. L. Burke spent most of her childhood around trees and farm animals and always accompanied by a book. Growing up with epic heroes from Middle Earth and Narnia keeping her company, she also became an incurable romantic.

An addictive personality, she jumped from one fandom to another, being at times completely obsessed with various books, movies, or television series (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Star Trek all took their turns), but she has grown to be what she considers a well-rounded connoisseur of geek culture.

Married to her high school crush who is now a US Marine, she has moved multiple times in her adult life but believes home is wherever her husband, two daughters, and pets are.
